Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup fresh grated organic ginger
  • 1/2 cup fresh grated, organic horseradish root
  • 1 medium organic onion, chopped
  • 10 cloves organic garlic, crushed and chopped
  • 2 organic jalapeƱo peppers or other chili
  • Zest and juice from 1 organic lemon
  • Several sprigs of fresh rosemary from your garden or 2 TBSP organic and dried
  • 1 TBSP organic turmeric powder
  • Organic apple cider vinegar with the mother
  • Optional: Raw, local, organic honey about a 1/4 cup or more to desired sweetness

Instructions

Add all veggies and herbs to a quart size jar, fill with apple cider vinegar. Use parchment paper or wax paper under the lid to prevent corrosion of the metal. Place on the counter for one month. Shake well every day. After the month strain through cheesecloth to a fresh jar. Add optional honey.

To use: Take 1 TBSP as preventative medicine or 3 TBSP at the first signs of cold or illness.

Fire cider can be taken straight by the spoonful or shot glass, added to juices or teas, or even used for salad dressing or to flavor rice.

Fire cider is an herbal home remedy with deep roots from folk medicine. It is a zesty, tasty combination of apple cider vinegar infused with onion, garlic, horseradish, chili peppers, ginger, and other herbs. Recipes will vary from year to year.

The herbs and vegetables choses are powerful immune boosting, antibacterial, anti-viral, decongestants, and a bit spicy to heat the body and digestive system encouraging circulation.

Other herbs that can be added: Thyme, astralagus, any citrus, oregano, peppercorns, parsley –pretty much any herb you enjoy or have in your garden!
