Yoga » Yoga Classes

The physical practices of Yoga are designed to keep the body healthy, stress free, and disease free (prevention:). The practice focuses on calming your nervous system and improving your breathing quality, and then moving our body in rhythm with our breath. This moving and breathing synchronicity reduces stress in our bodies, and creates health at a cellular level — by circulating blood, lymph, neurons, hormones, etc. to every cell in our body, while removing toxins that make cells mutate or sick we are able to prevent disease. Creating health from the “root” or from a cellular level is preventative medicine at its best! The postures internally cleanse the organs, very important in the toxic world corporations have created today.
Once the body is free of disease and pain, we can begin our work on the deeper aspects of yoga.  We provide INDIVIDUALIZED instruction on the practice of yoga in a warm, safe, and encouraging atmosphere.

    • Put more yoga into your yoga practice!  Yoga as an internal practice.   Use yoga postures to learn about your internal organs, where they are, what they do, and how to keep them healthy.  This updated and revised workshop is based on the research and workshops I have presented all over the world teaching us about the inner workings of yoga β€” you will learn more about your body and your yoga than you do in typical yoga classes.

Appropriate for anyone with just a little yoga experience all the way to, especially beneficial for teachers. Each week class will begin with a 30-45 minute workshop followed by approx. 1 hour practice time.

  • FAQs
    • Is the yoga practice led or mysore style? It is mostly led, or softly led more correctly stated. It is led workshop style meaning we may explore different options or be taught a movement and then given space to do the movement with our own breath.
    • How much yoga experience is necessary?  Some yoga experience (even if just beginner classes) is helpful for this workshop. I don’t want to use our workshop time teaching the basics, I want to use our time to get deeper into some of the little heard about benefits of yoga and how to incorporate them into your yoga no matter where or what type you practice.
    • Do I have to know Ashtanga Yoga to do this workshop?  No. I use some of the concepts from Ashtanga Yoga as the foundation for this workshop but it is not just limited to Ashtanga.

  • Cost & Location:  $200 non-residents / $180 residents Camp HIll Borough Building.  Registration link.  Contact Bobbi here.

BeFit Body & Mind yoga.
Individualized yoga taught in a group setting – aka Mysore style classes.
Learn how to individualize a yoga practice to your needs and desires.  In this process you learn your yoga practice and can practice it anytime anywhere, even developing a home practice.  This is very EMPOWERING πŸ™‚

Mysore style classes are the ideal way for beginners to learn.

The teachers at BeFit Yoga follow a much gentler and individualized framework that loosely follows the ashtanga yoga system where appropriate.  And where necessary will build individualized therapeutic practices, or specific practices for how you want to use your yoga.

Beginner? How to Start:

  • Beginners learn 1:1 initially with a teacher in mysore classes, by appointment. Please call or email Bobbi to make your appointment. 717/443-1119 or bobbi@befitbodymind.org
  • We also offer for beginners courses once or twice each year. Please check here for the next Beginner course.  Online private beginner sessions available with Bobbi (and sometimes in person private classes too).  Please contact Bobbi (contact info above) if you are interested.
  • If you have some previous yoga experience some beginners may be ok to start in the led primary (or 1/2 primary) classes, this will give you an experience of how we teach, however some previous yoga experience is strongly recommended before you take these classes.

Class Descriptions

Classes last approx. 1 hour
Mysore – A mysore class is individualized yoga for each person present in the room. In a Mysore class the entire class is not cued simultaneously through the same routine, instead we teach individually to each person in the class β€” even though people may learn the same postures, how each person does the postures is different, and how quickly each person progresses is different.

A yoga practice is best developed gradually over time, learning just a few postures at first, memorizing them through repeating your practice at home – then your sequence of postures is gradually built up over time as the body becomes more familiar with the poses, the breathing, and how to get and out of the poses..

In the beginning your practice is short (up to 30 minutes) as you learn the breathing and the warm up movements — and remember them, each time you come back we add on until you get your full practice. In this way you will remember your own yoga practice and be empowered to practice it anywhere.  Its fun to practice mysore style β€” everyone together as a little community doing their own practices and own routines β€” everyone doing something different, together.  This is how we individualize a yoga practice.  As a beginner, relish your short practices and let them grow organically.  For more information on practicing Mysore style please see the link below to our October 2013 topic of the month: https://www.befitbodymind.org/wp-content/uploads/2013/10/focus-of-the-month-10.13-pdf4.pdf

Open Mysore – Same as Mysore except it is an open time lasting between 2-4 hours, just waiting for you to come and practice πŸ™‚ You can start your yoga anytime between those hours, please be done and finished with rest pose by the closing time.

Led Classes – This is where we lead the class or group through a practice.  The purpose of led classes is to learn rhythm and pacing in your practice — you should have some familiarity with your practice before practicing in a group led class.  Surprise to many but group led classes are NOT best for beginners since the teacher can not accommodate everyone in the class in each pose, it is best to learn individually in a mysore style class or privately before joining a led class.

Led classes can be either 1/2 primary, primary, second series, or a combination.

Yoga has many definitions, but the common element is self-awareness. Yoga practices are designed and intended to promote self-knowing, or the deepening of consciousness about who we are in relation to ourselves and the outside world. This allows us to live up to our full potential as a human being. By repeatedly connecting to ourselves via the body, breath, and mind we are practicing Yoga. We discover little by little, or in flashes of perception, Who we really are. This makes us capable of relating to the outer world in a way that reduces suffering for ourselves and others by allowing us to respond with Love and Acceptance.
