Yoga » Yoga Classes

The physical practices of Yoga are designed to keep the body healthy, stress free, and disease free (prevention:). The practice focuses on calming your nervous system and improving your breathing quality, and then moving our body in rhythm with our breath. This moving and breathing synchronicity reduces stress in our bodies creating time and space in our body for healing and rejuvenation.  The yoga exercises themselves create health at a cellular level — by circulating blood, lymph, neurons, hormones, etc. to every cell in our body, while removing toxins that make cells mutate or sick we are able to prevent disease. Creating health from the “root” or from a cellular level is preventative medicine at its best! The postures internally cleanse the organs, very important in the toxic world corporations have created today.
Once the body is free of disease and pain, we can begin our work on the deeper aspects of yoga and our mind stuff.  We provide INDIVIDUALIZED instruction on the practice of yoga in a warm, safe, and encouraging atmosphere.

Online BeFit Yoga Class

Spring Session:  Thursdays March 27 – April 30, 2020

4:30 EST – Open Mic time to talk or ask questions
During this time you can pop on to talk with me (the group will be able to hear) or to do an open mysore practice
5:00ish EST Topic of the Month talk
5:30ish-6:30 EST  Led Mysore – Softly led group individualized class
I’ve coined a new term “led mysore”.  In Led Mysore classes I lead the group through a framework of practice modifying for each person in the class.

You can join in for the full two hour session or just any part of the 2 hour period.  Many people log in just to talk with me in the open mic time or to join in for the workshop portion only — and some just log in to catch the led mysore class.  Lots of options.

New to yoga?  New to my way of teaching?  I have been teaching for 30 years in 2020(!) and many of the people in my classes have been coming almost that long!  They know their practices; when we practice together in a group I give a basic cue and everyone knows their cue for their body…

If you are new to my style of teaching you may be used to following the cue or as I call it … ‘someone else’s practice’ ;).  In order to get the most from this session you will benefit more if you work with me individually for just one or two sessions to learn your own yoga practice — then you can follow along with us and not feel lost, and from there I can help you grow your practice in the online group class.  I am offering a special to ‘new to me’ people who join this class —
Two 1/2 hour private sessions for $45.00 online (unless you live in upcountry Maui).

Spring Session:
6 weeks = $30.00
Drop-In:  $8.00

In this online class I will offer guided instruction on developing your own personalized yoga practice within the group setting.  Community is an important benefit to our group classes, in this way we still learn how to personalize our own practice while participating in a group class building community and friendships.

Everyone will have their own devices in their own space, and all will be able to interact with each other, continuing the community we have grown to love.  I use my zoom video conferencing account for us to connect; this online platform will allow you to mute or stop your video if you have back ground noise or don’t want to be seen — while still participating and seeing everyone else.

Once registered I will send you the link to join our group along with all the pertinent information.

If you have any questions on this class, or problems logging in please contact Bobbi at 717/443-1119 or

BeFit Body & Mind yoga.
Individualized yoga taught in a small group setting – aka Mysore style classes.
Learn how to individualize a yoga practice to your needs and desires.  In this process you learn your yoga practice and can practice it anytime anywhere, even developing a home practice.  This is very EMPOWERING 🙂

Mysore style classes are the ideal way for beginners to learn.

The teachers at BeFit Yoga follow a much gentler and individualized framework that loosely follows the ashtanga yoga system where appropriate.  And where necessary will build individualized therapeutic practices, or specific practices for how you want to use your yoga.

Beginner? How to Start:

  • Beginners learn 1:1 initially with a teacher in mysore classes, or by appointment. Please call or email Bobbi to make your appointment. 717/443-1119 or
  • We also offer for beginners courses once or twice each year. Please check here for the next Beginner course.  Online private beginner sessions available with Bobbi (and sometimes in person private classes too).  Please contact Bobbi (contact info above) if you are interested.

What is Mysore – A mysore class is individualized yoga for each person present in the room. In a Mysore class the entire class is not cued simultaneously through the same routine, instead we teach individually to each person in the class — even though people may learn the same postures, how each person does the postures is different, and how quickly each person progresses is different.

A yoga practice is best developed gradually over time, learning just a few postures at first, memorizing them through repeating your practice at home – then your sequence of postures is gradually built up over time as the body becomes more familiar with the poses, the breathing, and how to get and out of the poses..

In the beginning your practice is short (up to 30 minutes) as you learn the breathing and the warm up movements — and remember them, each time you come back we add on until you get your full practice. In this way you will remember your own yoga practice and be empowered to practice it anywhere.  Its fun to practice mysore style — everyone together as a little community doing their own practices and own routines — everyone doing something different, together.  This is how we individualize a yoga practice.  As a beginner, relish your short practices and let them grow organically.  For more information on practicing Mysore style please see the link below to our October 2013 topic of the month:

Open Mysore – Same as Mysore except it is an open time lasting between 2-4 hours, just waiting for you to come and practice 🙂 You can start your yoga anytime between those hours, please be done and finished with rest pose by the closing time.

Led Classes – This is where we lead the class or group through a practice.  The purpose of led classes is to learn rhythm and pacing in your practice — you should have some familiarity with your practice before practicing in a group led class.  Surprise to many but group led classes are NOT best for beginners since the teacher can not accommodate everyone in the class in each pose, it is best to learn individually in a mysore style class or privately before joining a led class.

Yoga has many definitions, but the common element is self-awareness. Yoga practices are designed and intended to promote self-knowing, or the deepening of consciousness about who we are in relation to ourselves and the outside world. This allows us to live up to our full potential as a human being. By repeatedly connecting to ourselves via the body, breath, and mind we are practicing Yoga. We discover little by little, or in flashes of perception, Who we really are. This makes us capable of relating to the outer world in a way that reduces suffering for ourselves and others by allowing us to respond with Love and Acceptance.
